ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ABOUT DOT PHYSICALS IN NYC
For any commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver, passing a DOT physical is mandatory. The FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) within the Department of Transportation (DOT) sets the standards for these physicals, which must be performed by an FMCSA-Certified Medical Examiner. Every DOT physical includes a hearing test, vision exam, and more.

In addition, we recognize that state-specific DOT regulations and some employers may require a 5-panel drug test. We can seamlessly integrate this test with any DOT physical.
Each DOT physical takes approximately 45 minutes. Upon completion, drivers will either be immediately cleared and issued a Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT medical card) or referred to their physician for any necessary follow-up. If a drug test is added to the exam, the DOT medical card will not be given to a driver until the drug test comes back as a pass.
Once a driver successfully completes their DOT physical, their certification is valid for 24 months, provided there are no physical or mental health conditions that require more frequent evaluations. This means every two years, your drivers must undergo a new DOT physical to maintain their commercial driving qualifications.
